A Baptist minister; He was the father of the Statesman and Orator, Henry Clay. Elizabeth Hudson m 2 Henry Watkins in 1782. Both born in VA. Children: 1. Betsy Hudson Clay d. in infancy 1. George Hudson Clay 1768-1787? No issue 1. Henry Clay d. in infancy 1. John Clay 1775-1829 m. Julie Duralde. Issue: ?; John settled in New Orleans; died on a steamship between Louisville and New Orleans 1. Sally Clay d. in infancy 1. Molley Clay d. in infancy 1. Henry Clay 1777-1852; "the Statesman & Orator" resided on farm outside Lexington, KY. m. Lucretia Hart 1781-1864. Issue: 2. Henrietta Clay 1800-1801 2. Theodore Wythe Clay 1802-1870. Severe blow to head in youth led to mental problems in young adulthood. Died at Asylum for the Insane in Lexington, KY. No issue 2. Thomas Hart Clay 1803-1871 lived on farm outside Lexington m. 1837 Marie Mentelle.
