He married Susannah Garland_?? in Of Albemarle, Virginia, about 1743. Susannah was born in Virginia about 1720. Susannah died after 1792 in Bedford, Virginia. Land Grant Albemarle County, Virginia dated 20 Aug 1760 on Byrd Creek in Albemarle County, Virginia found in Patent Book #33 page 858 dated 1756- 1761 in the Virginia State Archives, Richmond, Virginia. Albemarle County, Virginia Indenture dated 8 Jun 1769 on Branch of Taylor Creek. Albemarle County Deed Book 5 1768-1772 PART II Indenture 16 Dec 1771 Jessee Creasey of Albemarle and Rene Woodson land on both sides of Little Bacon Creek. Was this Edward the son or Brother of our William Burgess Senior? Albemarle County Historical Society Book, page 27 states that William Burgess signed a petition to show anger over road conditions. William Burgess Junior, John Burgess Bond, William Burgess, Bedford County, Virginia Will written 23 Apr 1778 and proved 27 July 1778 Will Book 1, pages 307-308. Inventory of William Burgess's estate is also found in Bedford County, Virginia dated 15 May 1779. Bedford County, Virginia Marriage Records. A Joel Burgess and his wife Eleanor sold land in Bedford County, Virginia 1 Jan 1778. As Joel is not mentioned in William's Will, perhaps he is William's brother. Sons William and John Burgess moved to Fluvannah County, Virginia Son Edward Burgess moved to Montgomery County, Va, then Kanawha, then Lawrence County Kentucky. Son Thomas Burgess moved to Montgomery County, Giles County, Cabell County and then Logan County was formed from Cabell in 1824. Mary Josephine King Smith a descendent of William and Susannah states that Susannah's maiden name was GARLAND.

WILL BEDFORD COUNTY, Virginia In the name of God, Amen. I William BURGESS of Bedford County in the Colony of Virginia, being very sick and weak in body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be given to Almighty God, calling unto mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament. That is to say principally and first of all. I give and recommend my soul into the hand of Almighty God that gave it my body I recommend to the Earth to be buried in a decent Christian burial at the discretion of my executor nothing doubting but at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again by the power of the Almighty God, and as touching such worldly estate where with it has pleased God to bless me in this Life. I give, devise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form. First I give and bequeath to Watt Johnson of Fluvania County his heirs or assigns two hundred acres of land being part of my Tract of land in Fluvania County to havee 200 acres more or less, beginning at Byrd Creek up Mill Stone Brance to Lewis Venable's line thence to the beginning at Byrd Creek. Item I give unto my sons Edward Burgess and John Burgess two hundred acres of land more or less lying on each side of Byrd Creek and joining Mill Stone Branch part of my tract of land in Fluvania County the said to be sold and the money to be equally divided between my aforesaid sons Edward and John BURGESS. Item, I give and bequeath to my son William Burgess of Fluvania County two hundred acres of land more or less being part of my tract of land in Fluvania on the north side of Byrd Creek and being the place where on my said son William BURGESS now dwells, I give and bequeath unto my son Thomas BURGESS one hundred fifty one LLS. I give and bequeath unto my son THOMAS BURGESS one hundred fifty one acres of land being the place whereone I now dwell in Bedford County. , but my dearbelovedwife, Susannah Burgess is to have it as long as she remains a widow. I bequeath to my said son Thomas BURGESS, my two year old bay mare, one smooth bore gun. Item, I bequeath to my daughter Isable, five pound current money of Virginia. Item, I bequeath to my daughter Frankey Burgess five pounds current money of Virginia. Item I bequeath to my daughter Betty Burgess twenty pounds of current money of Virginia. I bequeath to my daughter Susannah twenty pounds current money of Virginia. Item, I bequeath my negroe wench Diania to be sold to the highest bidder and the money to be put to my other cash, and after all my debts and demands are paid the remained to beequally divided amongst all my children. I also do constitute my beloved wife Susannahah Burgess my executris and my son Edward Burgess my sole executor of this my last will and testament, and I do hereby utterly disallow revoke and disannul and and every other former testament, wills or legaices bequests and every other former testament, wills or legacies bequests and executors by me in any ways before named willed and bequeather ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have here unto set my hand and seal this twenty thrid day of April in the year of our Lord One Thjousand Seven hundred and seventy eight. Signed sealed pronounced and declared by the said William Burgess as his last will and Testament in the presence of us. At a court held for Bedford County, the 27 day of July 1778s This last will and Testament of Willaim Burgess deceased was proved by the Oaths of Edward Hore, and Willaim Robiinson thereto subscribed and ordered to be recorded. And on the motion of his wife and son, Susannah Burgess and Edward Burgess Executors therein anmed who made oath thereto, certificate is granted them for obtaining probate in due form give security where upon they together with Nathaniel Tate and Thomas Watts their securities entered into and acknowledged their bond in the penalty of Eight hundred pounds for the said executors adue and faithful administration. An inventory of William Burgess; estated dated 154 May 1779 is also found in Bedford County, Virginia - Nathaniel Tate, James Davis and William Watts witnessed the appraisal. Deeds Fluvanna County Virginia Book l 1777 1783 page 96 Indenture 3 September 1778 William Burgess and Jane his wife of Fluvanna County and Pleasant Cocke of Goochland for 100 pounds sold to Cocke 195 acres lying on Branches of Byrd Creek as followeths near John Thurmond and Davis Corner to David Parrish's corner to Thomass Kent line back to John Thurmond. Jos Hadin - Archibald Sneed - Champion Napier 3 Sep 1778 (This deed is important for two reasons. First it shows where William Burgess sold the land his father William Burgess received as an original land grant. Secondly it shows that William Burgess Jr married Jane whom we can identify as Jane PIGG.

5 iv. Betty Burgess was born in , Va. She married twice. She married William Mitchell in Bedford, Virginia, July 17, 1783. She married William Colburn in Bedford, Va, 1793.

6 v. John Burgess was born in , Va 1737. John died September 16, 1835 in Fluvanna, Virginia. He married twice. He married Eliz Bond in Fluvanna, Virginia, September 12, 1778. He married Elizabeth Sanders in Bedford, Va, November 17, 1780. (This is incorrect as Elizabeth Saunders Bond Burgess was only one woman.)

+ 8 vii. William Burgess was born about 1746.

+ 9 viii. Thomas Burgess was born 1755.

10 ix. Susannah Burgess was born in Of Albemarle, Virginia about 1765. She married Acquilla Mitchell in Bedford, Virginia, August 23, 1790.
