see Emma B. Richardson, "Dr. Anthony Cordes and some of his Descendants," The South Carolina Historical and Genealogical Magazine, Jan. 1943, which lists Elizabeth but does not give her husband's name and provides no connection between the Marion and Kent families.
Dear Dr. Carter,
am still trying to document your Marion Kent connection as published. Some intersting things have come up which I need help with. Would you please be kind enough to double check your notes on the John Kent marriage to Elizabeth Marion and see if it is infalable. If so, please send me copies of what ever you have so I may follow along. I'll be happy to pay for the epostage or you can scan and send them as an attachment to e-mail.
John Kent was in Union County SC in 1810. With him was 1 daughter, and 2 boys, no wife. After review, we noticed one boys from 1800 was missing, most likely Greenville or William. We found William living with the Francis Marion family in Charleston. he appears to be married at age 16 as he is in a seperate household with a female 16-26. Further inspections reveal that he might be the father of my David Kent. Looking forward into the censuses, the number and ages of children carry forward such that it appears now William lived with his wife and his father, John Kent, up until the 1840's. And it looks like John never remarried after his wife died or left him between 1800 and 1810. we establish that date because the is a child in his house under 10 in 1810. To further the mess, I have been recently informed that a 2nd John Kent lived in SC in 1810 and he was in Charleston. Perhaps he is the one in 96th in 1790 and edgefield in 1800. It is now very unclear who married into the Marion line, John, his son William, the other John Kent, all three or combinations thereof.
General Francis Marion died in 1795. Before he died he adopted his nephew, Francis Dwight who took the name Marion. The Francis Marion and Francis Marion Jr that William is with in 1810, is most likely this family. Other family members related to General Francis are on the page as is an estate of Marion and also an estate of Porcher with only 1 male over 45 in the household.
Below you will find an e-mail sent ot me regarding the marriages of Elizabeth who married Peter Porcher. Please let me know if you can shed light on these items.
Steve
