Dear Hank,
Here is the next part.
(5) JAMES E. VEASEY, son of JOHN VEAZEY (1) and MARTHA BROCCUS, married MARY MERCER, (daughter of THOMAS MERCER and ELIZABETH BENTLEY.) Her parents are not shown in the St. Stephen's birth records on file with the Historical Socierty of Cecil County. She was listed as "Spinster" in her marriage record at St. Stephen's Church on 20 NOV 1716 at CECIL COUNTY, MARYLAND. Records on file with the Latter Day Saints Church in Salt Lake City indicate Mary as the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Mercer, who are well recorded in Ceic County records. There is no other Mercer family in that area at the time of Mary's birth to have a daughter of Marriageable are in 1716. We have learned that the St. Stephen's records were had copied in the early 1800's and pages that were torn, etc. were omitted. Through this Mercer relationship, Mary Mercer Veazey's descednants are related to Judge David Davis, appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court by President Abraham Lincoln and also to President George Herbert Walker Bush. JAMES died 25 JUL 1766 at CECIL COUNTY, MARYLAND. The births of their children as recorded below are recorded in the parich register of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Cecil County. Three of his sons, Edward, James and Thomas migrated to North Carolina in the mid 1700's. Edward died about 1770-1771 in Granville County, North Carolina before the Revolutionary War. James was commissioned to build a will on the banks of the Knap of Reeds Creek in 1781, remnants of which can be seen there today. James migrated to Greene/Hancock County, Georgia, about 1784. Thomas was listed as "Dr." in the St. Stephen's Register of his birth. No record of an estate for Thomas has been found in Granville County, North Carolina, leading this writer to believe that he migrated to another place prior to his death. At the present time we have not verified more information about Thomas.
