Also in the 1790 census I found a: Winbrey Whitlock in Ninty-six District, Edgefield County, SC, in 1790 with 2 free white males 16 years and upward including heads of families, one free white female, and 1 slave.
Close by I found a: John Kent with one free white male and two free white females.
In the 1790 census in Charlestown District, Berkeley County, SC, I found: Francis, Jobe, Ann, Bengeman, Elizabeth, and Samuel Marion, all exactly together.
In the 1790 census in Ninty-Six District, Union County, SC I found (living within 20 entries of each other): Thomas Whitlock with himself, a son, and three women; Robert Whitlock, with himself, five males under 16, and five females; John Whitlock, with himself, two sons, and a woman; and William Whitlow, with himself, another male over sixteen, three women, and four slaves. Could this be everyone's father and could the son be Lancelot?.
On the next two pages were : William Whitlock with himself, a son under 16, three sons over 16, and five women; and James Whitlock with himself, one son, and three women. In Ninty-Six District, Edgefield County, SC I found John Kent with himself, and two women.
In the SC census for 1800 there is a William Whitlock on page 224 for Union District.
In the Union Baptist Church records for Union, SC I found no Kents or Marions, but I found a Susanna Whitlock (admitted in 1808) and Betsy Whitlock (excommunicated in 1808).
I found the census record for Landlot Whitlock in Union District, SC for 1830 with three male children under 5 years (William Lafayfette Whitlock would have been one of these), three male children ages five to ten, one male adult 20 to 30 (perhaps a brother), one male adult 30 to 40 (him), three female children under five, one female adult 30 to 40 (probably Elizabeth), two male slaves under 10, two female slaves under 10, and one each male and female slave 10 to 24
It appears from this that Lott Whitlock and his wife must both have been born between 1790 and 1800 because of their stated age ranges. They had six children in five years and another three in five more years or less. Some must be twins. They must have been married at least by 1822 to have had this many children. Assuming that they were at least 22 at marriage, they must have been born before 1800. But, since they had so many children so quickly between 1825 and 1830 we might assume they had children at about the same rate since marriage and that they were as young as possible. This would put their births in about 1798. Their might have been a first wife to help with so many children.
In 1840 there were no Landlot Whitlocks in either SC or AL listed so I assume that his family was in route to Alabama in 1840.
I found him in the 1850 census in Benton Co (later changed to Calhoun Co.), AL, so he must have moved from SC to AL. Lott Whitlock, age 58, farmer, born GA, $1200 worth of land (so he was born in 1792), Elizabeth Whitlock, age 53, born SC, Joseph Whitlock, age 19, Levi Whitlock, age 16, A. Whitlock, age 12, James Frasey, age 55, farmer, born SC
He was not listed in the 1860 or 1870 AL census.
I found numerous Whitlocks in Union County, SC in 1860, which might have been relatives, i.e. Atamire Whitlock Amanda " pg. 258 Locale Jonesville Amanda " 260 Unionville Benit " 229 Kelton Caroline " 258 Jonesville Charles " 258 Unionville Charles "251 Jonesville Dunovan " 272 Unionville E.
